FAQ

Where will the ceremony and reception be held?

The ceremony will be held at St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC, 28204. The reception will be held at a private residence (address to be provided privately via email and at ceremony to invited guests).

Do I need an invitation to the ceremony?

No. Any of our friends and acquaintances are welcome to attend the ceremony; no RSVP is necessary for the ceremony. While we wish we could have unlimited space for our reception, that's simply not possible. Unfortunately, only previously invited guests are welcome at the reception.

When should I arrive for the ceremony?

You should plan to arrive at St. John's Baptist between 1:15-1:30pm. Doing so will allow you ample time to park, find your way to the sanctuary, and be seated before the ceremony begins at 2pm. Enjoy the music of the church's Létourneau Pipe Organ during the prelude.

Is parking available?

Parking is available at St. John's Baptist, in parking lots accessible from Fifth Street and Hawthorne Lane. Directional signage will guide you to the front of the church. For the reception, parking will be available at a nearby parking lot within close walking distance of the reception. Address and details to be provided privately to invited guests at a later time.

Where do I enter the church? Is there an accessible entry?

Please enter the church at the front sanctuary entrance at the corner of Fifth Street and Hawthorne Lane (where the big steps and columns are). Signage will direct you to the front of the church. If you need an elevator, enter at the entrance with the large "Main Entrance" sign in the parking lot accessible from Fifth Street. Someone will let you in and point you toward the elevator.

Is the reception outdoors?

Yes. The reception will be held outdoors. A sizable portion of the reception area will be on a solid surface. Please plan for appropriate shoes and clothing dependent upon the weather forecast. We will provide weather updates if necessary.

What do you mean by "semi-formal" attire?

Semi-formal attire is a dress code that's more formal than everyday clothing but less formal than black-tie or evening wear. Semi-formal attire is generally refined yet relaxed, and it allows for personal expression.

Will transportation be provided between the ceremony and reception?

No. You should plan to drive or arrange other transportation from the ceremony to the reception, an approximately 10-15 minute drive from the church. Reception address will be provided. (GPS is your friend!)

What kind of food will be provided at the reception?

We have finalized our menu and are excited to serve a catered, traditional barbecue dinner with excellent sides — some truly traditional, southern fare! We'll have appetizers available when you arrive and dinner will be available around 5pm. Please plan your lunch accordingly. We will not be hosting a sit-down dinner, but you will not leave hungry! (Options for those who are vegetarian or vegan will be provided.)

Can I bring my kids?

We love your kids, but thought you might like a night off! Adults only at the reception, please.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Our closest family members and dearest friends are invited to celebrate with us at the reception. If you have been extended a plus-one, this will be clearly indicated in your invitation. Though we would like to host any and all who'd wish to be a part of our special day, we ask that you respect our need to prioritize family and friends within our planning constraints.

Can you assist with travel and lodging?

Unfortunately, we are not able to assist you with travel or lodging. We encourage you to research local hotels or Airbnb offerings. For hotels, we suggest you stay in Uptown or the Southpark area. For Airbnbs, look for houses in the Southeast Charlotte and South Charlotte areas.
